Inflation Scorecard: Gold Scores New Highs
Real-time Monetary Inflation (last 12-months): 1.1%

The U.S. dollar stood out in forex trading this week as the only Special Drawing Rights component that didn't have a new high notched against it by gold. For the week ending Thursday, gold advanced 1.7 percent against the greenback, 3.4 percent against the euro, 3.0 percent against pound sterling and 0.5 percent against the yen.

Gold prices turned up Monday on short covering following Friday's aggressive buying. COMEX front-month metal gained more than six bucks in the day session on volume even heavier than Friday's.
